The Productive Professional's Routine
Overview
Micro-habits for finance, communication and self-management, built into your 8-hour working day.
Before you start working (3 min)
1. Quick financial check (1 min)
- Open your banking app and look at your balance. No judgment.
- If there's a purchase waiting out its "24-hour pause", decide now.
2. Professional intention (1 min)
Write: "Today my #1 priority is ___." One single priority. Not three.
3. Social preparation (1 min)
Identify one person you'll speak to today. Prepare an open question or a specific compliment.
During the working day
Every hour: micro-movement (60 sec)
Gentle alarm → stand up → 10 squats or a 1-minute walk.
After every meeting: emotional check-in (30 sec)
Note in one word how you felt: "frustrated", "motivated", "confused". This trains your emotional intelligence.
Before lunch: expense log (30 sec)
Note the most significant expense of the morning. Just one.
After lunch: breathe (1 min)
3 cycles of 4-7-8 breathing to bring your focus back after eating.
Closing out the day (3 min)
1. Priority close (1 min)
Did you complete your #1 priority? If so: celebrate it. If not: what blocked you?
2. Social closing gesture (1 min)
Send a thank-you message to someone on the team. Be specific: "Thanks for [action], it helped me [result]."
3. Minimal planning (1 min)
Define tomorrow's #1 priority. Write it down and close the laptop.
Minimum version
- Morning: #1 priority (30 sec)
- Every hour: movement (60 sec)
- Close: specific thank-you (30 sec)
When to use this routine
